Borrowing from the position of the BC Parks Legacy Panel on ecological integrity, I would perceive it to mean that there is minimal or no interference at all in the ecosystem. It entails ensuring that the natural processes in the ecosystems proceed without any interference from human activities. In light of this, nature describes the unaltered habitat of the other living things by human. This is a plan of how I intend to live in the environment by participating in activities that enhance the preservation of the environment. My mission is to ensure that all activities I am engaged in, are carried out in an environmental conscious manner in order to preserve as well as to rehabilitate the environment.
The first step towards achieving a better environment is by using the natural resources in a manner that eliminates wastage. It involves having in mind the fact that natural resources are scarce while they are needed to satisfy infinitely many processes. The most common natural resources are those that are shared between all the living organisms. Water, air, and soil are natural resources that affect all the living things. My initial step includes restraining from activities that pollute these resources. Whereas I can easily access clean water, avoiding its wastage will also help to ensure there is enough for everyone.
Using energy sparingly also helps to reduce the pressures that humans have for a long time put on nature. I am also committed to encouraging other members of the community to adopt environmentally-friendly fuels, like solar energy. Minimal use of energy will reduce its side effects, which include the greenhouse effects that are attributable to the ever rising sea levels and melting ice caps.
Environmental degradation occurs when human activities alter the ecological balance. In my action plan, I intend to minimize environmental degradation to the lowest possible point. Man's daily activities affect the environment in different ways. Some of these activities degrade the environment while others may help to rehabilitate it. Using personal automobiles to school adds to the volume of greenhouse gases emitted to the air, which negatively alters the ecosystem. In light of this, I intend to promote the ride to school initiative or to encourage students to use the public transport. By participating in a tree planting event or a river clean up, I will be actively reversing the damage.
Across the world, all living organisms share the scarce resources. However, in the event that either side overuses the resources at their disposal, they reduce the amount available to others, either directly or indirectly. For instance, when one misuses water, they put a strain on the water supply, which may translate to water shortage in other regions. Haphazard dumping of refuse, especially in public parks, can find its way into the river, which affects the quality of water available for other users.
Individual efforts make up a considerable proportion of the achieved objectives. I aim to achieve sustainability by continuously engaging in environmental friendly activities. In addition, by involving friends and other members of the community in the plan, the intended results are expected to make a more substantial difference in the environment. Involving different facets of the community gives the plan a more holistic approach consequently enhancing its sustainability.
In order to achieve all the intended results, patience and persistence are primary components of the action plan. To achieve a cleaner environment, some of the milestones are relatively easier to achieve. Whilst the environment requires to be constantly preserved, the action plan will cover a one-year period. This will enable me to develop an environmentally friendly habit as well as be able to make a lasting impression on the environment.
